IINYS - A Moral, Progressive
Religious Voice at the Table
Interfaith Impact of NYS equips individuals, small groups, and congregations to speak out effectively to New York State legislators and administrators on important moral issues.

  • Environmental Justice, including all-clean energy by 2030 and a clean air and water and a healthful environment amendment to the NY Constitution
  • Democracy in government: redistricting, campaign finance, and voting reform
  • Health Care for All, including Reproductive Justice and Universal Health Care
  • Criminal Justice Reform: eliminate cash bail and find humane alternatives to solitary confinement.
  • Economic Justice
  • Human Rights, including LGBTQ, Anti-Racism, Immigrant rights
  • Equal Education Opportunity

Our Mission
IINYS  is an organization of congregations, clergy and individuals from progressive Protestant, Reform Jewish, Unitarian Universalist and other faith traditions across the state. We work for the common good through progressive religious advocacy with the State Legislature, Executive Chamber and State agencies.
Join us for our annual Legislative Advocacy Day, Monday,  May 7, 2018, in the Legislative Office Building in Albany. Doors open at 9:30, program starts at 10:00 with speakers, lobbying starts at 11:30. Room number and agenda to be announced. 
And make your voice heard through letter-writing, e-mail, mail, and social media campaigns throughout the year.

Current IINYS Issues
Health Care

  • Comprehensive reproductive health care, including age-appropriate sexuality education for teens
  • Universal health care

Human Rights

  • Transgender Rights (Gender Non-Discrimination Act) 
  • Support the NY Dream Act for undocumented immigrant youth

 Criminal Justice Reform

  • Support elimination of cash bail.
  • Emphasize restorative justice, education, and prison-to-community transition programs.
  • Oppose the death penalty.
  • Oppose excessive use of solitary confinement .

Economic Justice

  • Support Farmmworkers Fair Labor Practices 

Responsible Stewardship of the Environment

  • Support a New York State Constitution amendment that gives everyone the right to clean air and water and a healthful environment.
  • Support the call for all-clean, renewable energy by 2030.
  • Oppose investment in petroleum infrastructure

  
How does IINYS advocate?

  • IINYS has an annual advocacy day in the spring to meet with legislators, policy analysts and counsel for the Assembly and Senate. 
  • Our members meet throughout the year with legislators, the Governor and his staff, and other policy makers.
  • We present IINYS briefings and Conscience in Public Life forums in communities across the state.
  • Social networking for justice and compassion
  • E-mail action alerts, updates and e-advocacy campaigns (also posted on www.interfaithimpactnys.org).
  • Testify at legislative hearings and respond to requests for information from the Executive Chamber, legislative committees, congregation-based social justice committees, and many others.
  • Participate in press conferences, demonstrations, forums and other events.
  • Provide up-to-date position papers on key issues.
  • Offer technical assistance with letter writing tables, forums, etc.
  • Work with allied organizations to turn up the volume on important issues
